The Committee on Degrees in Studies of Women, Gender, and Sexuality offers both a concentration (major) and secondary field (minor) for undergraduate students. Juniors can apply to write an undergraduate thesis during their senior year or to pursue a joint concentration, which gives them the opportunity to do in-depth research in WGS and another department.
Graduate certificate program
Harvard doctoral students may pursue a graduate secondary field certificate – the equivalent of a graduate minor -- in studies of women, gender, and sexuality. In addition to the required coursework, graduate secondary field students gain valuable pedagogical experience as teaching fellows for undergraduate courses.
Extensive course offerings
Each year our core faculty offers over two dozen courses ranging across the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. We also encourage our students to choose courses from 50 additional courses on gender and sexuality taught by our affiliates and other faculty in departments ranging from history to human evolutionary biology. WGS advisers help students develop a program of study that best fits their interests.
