 

#  2016 Matthiessen Professor Named Guggenheim Fellow

The John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation announced this week that [Professor Robert Reid-Pharr](/news/robert-reid-pharr-named-2016-matthiessen-professor), who will visit WGS as the Matthiessen Professor of Gender and Sexuality in fall 2016, has received a Guggenheim Fellowship in literary criticism.

The [foundation's announcement](http://www.gf.org/fellows/all-fellows/robert-f-reid-pharr/) recognized Professor Reid-Pharr as "'one of the country’s leading scholars of African American literature and culture, \[who\] works to disrupt narrow conceptual and disciplinary boundaries as he examines the interconnections between discourses of race, gender, class, and sexuality."
