 

#  Alum Rebecca Scofield in The Harvard Gazette's "To Serve Better" Series

 WGS Graduate Secondary Field alum [Rebecca Scofield](https://www.uidaho.edu/class/history/faculty-staff/rebecca-scofield) was recently featured in *The Harvard Gazette's* "[To Serve Bette](https://toservebetter.harvard.edu/profile/id-rebecca-scofield)r" series. "To Serve Better" tells the stories of people "committed to public purpose and to making a positive difference in communities throughout the country." Scofield (Ph.D., American Studies '15 ) is an Assistant Professor of twentieth century American history at the University of Idaho, where she researches the history of LGBTQ+ community that existed on the American frontier. Her first book, *[Outriders: Rodeo at the Fringes of the American West](https://uwapress.uw.edu/book/9780295746777/outriders/)*, was released in 2019. She also curates the [Gay Rodeo Oral History Project](https://www.voicesofgayrodeo.com/) to gather vital information about how gay men and women have built a vibrant community and experienced rodeo over the past forty years.

 While a graduate student at Harvard WGS, Scofield's dissertation committee was chaired by WGS professor [Robin Bernstein](/people/robin-bernstein).
