#  Caroline Light Pens Gun Law Op Ed

WGS Professor [Caroline Light](/people/caroline-light) authored an [op ed on newly proposed “stand your ground” legislation in Florida](https://www.tampabay.com/opinion/2020/11/21/desantis-new-stand-your-ground-would-provoke-the-danger-it-professes-to-prevent-column/). In the piece, which appeared in the *Tampa Bay Times*, Light provides evidence that Gov. Ron DeSantis’ “Combating Violence, Disorder and Looting and Law Enforcement Protection Act,” will ultimately make Floridians, especially protestors against racial violence, less safe by criminalizing protest and providing cover for armed vigilante groups. Light is the author *of Stand Your Ground: A History of America’s Love Affair with Lethal Self-Defense* (Beacon Press, 2017).
