#  Charmaine Nelson Named Canada Research Chair in Transatlantic Black Diasporic Art and Community Engagement

 Former WGS [William Lyon Mackenzie King Visiting Professor](https://programs.wcfia.harvard.edu/canada_program/people/wlmk-chairs) of Canadian Studies (2017-2018) Charmaine A. Nelson has recently been appointed [Canada Research Chair in Transatlantic Black Diasporic Art and Community Engagement](https://nscad.ca/crctierone/) at Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD). Professor Nelson will be using the fully funded, seven-year position to develop the Institute for the Study of Canadian Slavery as “a hub for the study of art, visual cultures and histories of Canadian Slavery and its legacies.”
