 

#  San Filippo Wins Lammy Award

WGS congratulates former lecturer [Maria San Filippo](http://mariasanfilippo.net//), who received the [Lambda Literary Award](http://www.lambdaliterary.org/features/06/03/winners-of-the-26th-annual-lambda-literary-awards-announced/) (Lammy) for Bisexual Nonfiction for her first book, *[The B Word: Bisexuality in Contemporary Film and Television](http://www.iupress.indiana.edu/product_info.php?products_id=806905)*.

San Filippo taught courses on gender in film and feminist theory for WGS from 2010 to 2013 and is currently assistant professor and director of the Cinema &amp; Media Studies Program at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.Two other WGS faculty members also received nominations for Lammy Awards this year. Afsaneh Najmabadi's book *[Professing Selves: Transsexuality and Same-Sex Desire in Contemporary Iran](http://www.dukeupress.edu/Professing-Selves/)* was a finalist in the LGBT studies category, and Michael Bronski's book ["](http://www.beacon.org/You-Can-Tell-Just-by-Looking-P992.aspx) (co-authored with former Director of Undergraduate Studies Ann Pellegrini and Michael Amico) was a finalist for LGBT nonfiction.  
  
Writer, editor, and WGS alum [Mitch Kellaway '13](http://mitchkellaway.com/) was a judge for this year's Lambda Awards.
