December 06, 2021

Professor [Robin Bernstein](/people/robin-bernstein) has been awarded the The Modern Language Association of America's [William Riley Parker Prize](https://forms.mla.org/proxy/file.php?id=contribute/files/WRP%202021%20Press%20Release(1).pdf), given annually for "an outstanding article published in *PMLA*, the association’s journal of literary scholarship.

She received this award for her article, [“‘You Do It!’: Going-to-Bed Books and the Scripts of Children’s Literature”](https://hollis.harvard.edu/permalink/f/1mdq5o5/TN_cdi_proquest_journals_2503916332), published in *PMLA* in January, 2020. (Harvard affiliates can access her article using their HarvardKey.) This is Professor Bernstein's second article published in *PMLA*, after “[Children’s Books, Dolls, and the Performance of Race; Or, The Possibility of Children’s Literature](https://scholar.harvard.edu/robinbernstein/publications/children%E2%80%99s-books-dolls-and-performance-race-or-possibility-children%E2%80%99s),” published in 2011.

In describing their motivation for the award, the selection committee wrote, "Robin Bernstein offers a masterful account of what she identifies as a distinct subgenre of children’s literature. Her discussion of Goodnight Moon, that most iconic of nighttime stories, opens up in an almost disarming way and becomes an engaging, riveting, and searching exploration of the socioanthropological status of the child-parent relationship in late capitalism."

Please join WGS in congratulating Professor Bernstein for this honor!
