Professor Luis’s [Herlands: Exploring the Women’s Land Movement in the United States](https://www.upress.umn.edu/book-division/books/herlands)*, published in 2018 by the University of Minnesota press, examines how women-only communities provide spaces for new forms of culture, sociality, gender, and sexuality. Professor Gill’s *Erotic Islands: Art and Activism in the Queer Caribbean*, which foregrounds queer histories of Carnival, calypso, and HIV/AIDS in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, was published in 2018 by Duke University Press.

First presented in 1989, [the Lambda Literary Awards](https://www.lambdaliterary.org/features/news/03/07/31st-annual-lammy-finalists/), commonly known as the Lammies, honor the best LGBTQ books of the year. The 2019 awards will be presented at a ceremony and gala in New York City on Monday, June 3.

Please join us in congratulating Professors Luis and Gill on their nominations!
