*Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences* has published an opinion piece, "[Focus on preclinical sex differences will not address women’s and men’s health disparities](http://www.pnas.org/content/112/44/13419.full)," co-written by WGS Professor Sarah Richardson, Meredith Reiches (former WGS lecturer, Harvard Human Evolutionary Biology PhD, and UMass Boston Asst. Professor of Anthropology), and Heather Shattuck-Heidorn (WGS graduate secondary fielder and Human Evolutionary Biology PhD candidate).

Along with Michelle Lynn LaBonte and Theresa Consoli, the authors contend that requiring sex as a variable in preclinical studies will do little to mitigate human health disparities, but will likely rather introduce conceptual and empirical errors into research.
