 Wanting to understand more about my communities and myself as a feminist, queer, trans person kept drawing me to WGS classes in my first semester at Harvard; there were topics presented in these spaces that I didn't see addressed upfront in any other departments. My research ranged from studying lesbian domestic violence, to queer pop culture, to trans men's video blogs.

 A good deal of my Harvard education, too, was taking a three-year hiatus from my studies. It was during that time that I could apply all I'd learned in the abstract to my "real life" as a working adult in a complicated world. After my Junior year I went on leave and I returned to WGS more focused and recommitted to researching and illuminating the stories of trans men, like myself, who get so little airplay in mainstream discourse.

 Today, I live my dream: I think, talk to, and write about trans and queer people everyday. Working as a freelance writer, I've been the transgender issues correspondent for top U.S. LGBT news source [Advocate.com](http://www.advocate.com/) and have contributed writing to [Everyday Feminism](http://everydayfeminism.com/), [Original Plumbing](http://www.originalplumbing.com/), and the [Lambda Literary Review](http://www.lambdaliterary.org/). In addition to that, I've gotten experience in indie LGBT publishing, spending a year editing book manuscripts about trans people with [Transgress Press](http://www.transgresspress.org/). I continue to edit trans-related nonfiction and fiction as a freelancer.

 In 2014, I released my own first book, a co-edited anthology of trans men's narratives titled *[Manning Up: Transsexual Men on Finding Brotherhood, Family & Themselves](http://www.transgresspress.org/manning-up.html)*. In addition to my freelance work, I've worked in restaurants and done clerical work for the past 5 years.
