Caroline Light’s Piece on “Stand Your Ground” Laws Appears on Slate.com

January 11, 2019

WGS Professor Caroline Light has co-authored a Slate.com op-ed on the Florida Supreme Court’s extension of the state’s “stand your ground” law to police officers.

The article was co-written with David Schoen, attorney for the family of 2013 shooting victim Jermaine McBean in the case that resulted in the expansion of the law. Light and Schoen discuss how “in spite of their apparent race and gender neutrality, ‘stand your ground’ laws intensify existing injustices while making already criminalized populations more vulnerable.”
