WGS Professor Caroline Light's latest op-ed, "Ahmaud Arbery’s Killers Want to Ban the Word Victim at Their Trial," has been published by Slate.com. Co-authored with assistant Florida state's attorney Janee E. Thomas, the piece discusses how "Stand Your Ground" laws can enable lawyers to mount a toxic defense for police by erasing the victimhood and presumed innocence of targets of white supremacist violence.
Light is the author of Stand Your Ground: A History of America’s Love Affair with Lethal Self-Defense (Beacon Press, 2017).
