On Tuesday, October 17, 2023, the Thomas Jefferson Foundation, the private nonprofit that owns and operates Monticello, announced that WGS Standing Committee member Professor Jane Kamensky accepted the appointment of the new President at Monticello beginning January 15, 2024.

Professor Kamensky said, “It’s a tremendous honor to have been chosen to lead one of the nation’s most important historical institutions. Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello carries the weight of our past, the challenges of our present, and the enormous potential of our shared future.”  The complete press release can be read at Monticello's website.
