San Filippo Wins Lammy Award

WGS congratulates former lecturer Maria San Filippo, who received the Lambda Literary Award (Lammy) for Bisexual Nonfiction for her first book, The B Word: Bisexuality in Contemporary Film and Television

San Filippo taught courses on gender in film and feminist theory for WGS from 2010 to 2013 and is currently assistant professor and director of the Cinema & Media Studies Program at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.

Two other WGS faculty members also received nominations for Lammy Awards this year. Afsaneh Najmabadi's book Professing Selves: Transsexuality and Same-Sex Desire in Contemporary Iran was a finalist in the LGBT studies category, and Michael Bronski's book " (co-authored with former Director of Undergraduate Studies Ann Pellegrini and Michael Amico) was a finalist for LGBT nonfiction.

Writer, editor, and WGS alum Mitch Kellaway '13 was a judge for this year's Lambda Awards.
