WGS professor Marya Mtshali's article, How medical bias against black people is shaping Covid-19 treatment and care was published in Vox on June 2, 2020. "[T]he damaging implicit and explicit biases present in our medical system do not suddenly vanish because we are in the middle of a pandemic. In fact, the pandemic has made them impossible to ignore" writes Mtshali.

Mtshali's course, WOMGEN 1274 Gender, Race, and Poverty in the United States, was recently mentioned by students in The Derek Bok Center for Teaching and Learning blog "Gold Star Teaching Moves" as an example of distance learning at its best. We congratulate Professor Mtshali for her excellent teaching and writing on some of the most pressing issues of our time.
