Marya Mtshali's Op-Ed Appears in Cosmopolitan

Professor Marya Mtshali's op-ed, "White People in Interracial Relationships Better Understand Racism, Sure, But at What Cost to Black Partners?" was published on the Cosmopolitan website. In the wake of Oprah Winfrey's interview with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, Mtshali draws on her research to talk about how, in interracial relationships, Black partners often bear the burden of educating their white partners about race and racism and what kind of toll this takes. Mtshali has taught "Interracial Intimacy: Sex, Race, and Romance in the U.S." for WGS and is currently writing a book based on her research with interracial couples, Gray Matter: Racialized Heteronormativies in the World of Black-White Interracial Couples.
