An op-ed by WGS Standing Committee member Professor Ju Yon Kim has appeared in The Crimson. Kim penned the open letter, "The Story Does Not Begin in Georgia: A Letter to Students About the Recent Shootings," on behalf of a concerned group of Asian American faculty in response to the recent Atlanta murders. In the piece, she writes, "While people analyze one murderer's motivations, we know that race, gender, and class are not incidental to what happened, where it happened, and to whom it happened."

Kim is a Professor of English whose research and teaching interests include Asian American literature and performance; modern and contemporary American theater and drama; and cross-racial and intercultural performance. She is the author of The Racial Mundane: Asian American Performance and the Embodied Everyday (NYU Press, 2015).
