On Thursday, September 12, 2023, the Provost’s Office announced the appointment of WGS Professor Sarah Richardson as the Aramont Professor of the History of Science and Professor of Studies of Women, Gender, and Sexuality, effective July 1, 2023. The Aramont Professorship was established through a gift from the Aramount Charitable Foundation and is awarded to a tenured Faculty of Arts and Sciences professor whose work focuses on the history of science.

Professor Richardson is a leading scholar of gender and science whose work argues for conceptual rigor and social responsibility in scientific research on sex, gender, sexuality, and reproduction. Her research uses the tools of history, philosophy, and social studies of science to analyze how scientists, in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, understand sex and gender. Professor Richardson is jointly appointed in the Department of the History of Science and the Committee on Degrees in Studies of Women, Gender, and Sexuality and directs the Harvard GenderSci Lab. She also serves on the Standing Committees for Degrees in Social Studies and for the Mind, Brain, and Behavior Interfaculty Initiative at Harvard.

Please join WGS in congratulating Professor Richardson on this honor.
