Sarah Richardson Co-authors Piece in the Lancet

The Harvard GenderSci Lab has a new piece out, “Women’s Health, Inc,” published in The Lancet. The full text of the article is available without firewall here (see also our explainer and Twitter thread).

Authored by Sarah Richardson and Joseph Dov Bruch (University of Chicago), the piece documents and examines the impacts of recent rapid financialization in the women’s health industry. While growing financial investment in “women’s health” has been celebrated by many as a victory for women and a sign of progress within the health system, the authors challenge this idea, pointing out that the expansion of corporate investment in women’s health raises a range of concerns related to access, cost, data surveillance, and ultimately reproductive justice.

The goal of this essay is to spur debate and new scholarship on what corporate investment in women’s health ultimately means for women and gender minorities.
