Sarah Richardson was named one of 32 innovators who are building a better future by the by the UK edition of Wired. British science writer Angela Siani cited Richardson's cutting-edge research on sex and gender as motivation for including her on the list, writing "She shows that essentialist narratives around health disparities between men and women, which have become popular in recent years, need to be interrogated – what looks like a sex difference can often turn out to have a complex social cause rather than a simple biological one." Sarah Richardson is the author of Sex Itself: The Search for Male and Female in the Human Genome (2013, U Chicago Press) and is currently completing a second book, The Maternal Imprint: The Contested Science of Maternal-Fetal Effects, which will be released in the fall of 2021.
