WGS Authors Nominated for Lammy Awards

WGS Professor Keridwen Luis and graduate secondary field alum Professor Lyndon Gill (U Texas) have both been nominated for Lambda Literary awards in the LGBTQ Studies category.

Professor Luis’s Herlands: Exploring the Women’s Land Movement in the United States, published in 2018 by the University of Minnesota press, examines how women-only communities provide spaces for new forms of culture, sociality, gender, and sexuality. Professor Gill’s Erotic Islands: Art and Activism in the Queer Caribbean, which foregrounds queer histories of Carnival, calypso, and HIV/AIDS in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, was published in 2018 by Duke University Press.

First presented in 1989, the Lambda Literary Awards, commonly known as  the Lammies, honor the best LGBTQ books of the year. The 2019 awards will be presented at a ceremony and gala in New York City on Monday, June 3.
