WGS Professor Keridwen Luis  was recently quoted in the March 14, 2019 New York Times article "What Do Womxn Want?" by Breena Kerr. Commenting on the social history of the word "women", among other things, Luis is quoted to explain that, "'If you go back to the logical root of the word, it’s that ‘men’ is the default, [...] And in many cases in English, we’ve just reverted to using the masculine as the default for a lot of things.'" Read Luis' further comments and the full article on the New York Times website.
