WGS is pleased to welcome Professor Jocelyn Viterna as the new Department Chair as of July 1, 2023, replacing Professor Robert Reid-Pharr, who has accepted a new position at NYU.  Professor Viterna is a Professor of Sociology whose research examines how social mobilization affects gender norms and practices in politics, in government institutions, in warfare, and in communities.

Professor Viterna is looking forward to her new role in WGS, particularly working closely with WGS faculty, staff, and students.  Professor Viterna will split her time between her Department of Sociology office in William James Hall, and her WGS office in Boylston Hall.
