WGS Professor Caroline Light's essay on the steady creep of “stand-your-ground” ideology -- co-authored with legal expert Janae Thomas -- has been published on Slate.com. Light and Thomas's piece, "How Trayvon Martin's Killing Ushered In a New Era of Vigilante Violence," details how, a decade after Martin’s killing, vigilantism is on the rise, and our already tenuous grip on justice is slipping.
Caroline Light is the author of Stand Your Ground: A History of America’s Love Affair with Lethal Self-Defense (Beacon Press, 2017). Her blog, In the Crosshairs, appears on the website of the School of Public Health's HPHR Journal.
